How can we navigate the vast ocean of time in a nutshell, amongst waves of work and family commitments, looming deadlines, tasks, and ever-present responsibilities? The bitter taste of being unable to achieve everything gnaws at us. We could become masters in time management, but our schedule overflows, seemingly impossible to clear. The wisdom of Brian Tracy intrigues me, author of the appreciated "Eat that Frog!" and a plethora of motivational treatises, who asserts that the sole way to master our time is to change our thinking, accepting the existence of actions that can be accomplished, and others that will inevitably be neglected. Triumph lies in discernment, in deciding what tasks to focus our attention on to achieve success in life.
In his volume "Eat that Frog!", Tracy consistently suggests numerous methods for time management. However, there is a principle that unifies all and gives the title to his book: true success arrives when we commit to finishing first the most arduous tasks, as they make the difference. The "frog" symbolizes our most important task, the one that's so complex to achieve we tend to avoid out of fear and due to the difficulties it implies. Yet this "frog" should be the task we must strike off our list, as it will positively impact our career.
Each of us has more than one "frog" to face, and myriad strategies exist to recognise it and decide which to tackle first. The golden rule, according to Tracy and, which I agree with, is that when it comes to choosing which "frog" to "eat", it's best to start with the most repulsive!
Let us commence our days by "eating" our most terrible "frog"; for dinner, we will only be left with the sweet dessert of the easiest and most enjoyable tasks to accomplish!
